We tried 3 different ways to see manatees in Florida and one of them completely surprised us. From walking a boardwalk to riding a glass-bottom boat and kayaking in crystal-clear springs, we wanted to find the best way to see manatees up close while still being responsible and respectful of wildlife. We’ve been in Florida for almost three weeks, after kicking off 2026 in the Florida Keys, with one big goal: visiting all 50 U.S. states by the end of 2026. This is State #11, and before checking Florida off the list, there was one place everyone said we had to stay—Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground. Often ranked as one of the best RV campgrounds in Florida and even the best campground at Disney World, Fort Wilderness gets a lot of hype. But there’s a catch we’ve never been to Fort Wilderness or Disney World. And the advice we kept hearing? “Newbies should avoid this campground.” So naturally, we booked it anyway. We stayed in a Premium Full Hookup RV site with electric, water, sewer, and a concrete pad, so the RV part was easy. The real challenge was navigating Fort Wilderness and Disney World as first-timers.
